The Honorable Celeste Hardee Muir (Ret.) was not just a respectable Judge for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Miami Dade, but a pillar in the community. Joining the Judicial system in 1986, she held court in the Family and Probate Divisions of the Circuit Court until her retirement in 2020. During her prestigious rein as a Judge, she held memberships in the Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section (Executive Committee), the Florida Bar, and the Conference of County Court Judges, as well as in her earlier years, becoming the first female President of the Dade County Bar Association’s (now Miami Dade Bar) Young Lawyers Section.

It stands to say, the Hon. Celeste H. Muir personifies Judicial Professionalism and Civility in and out the justice system, and we’re a mission to look for judges in Miami Dade who share similar amazing qualities for the upcoming Celeste Hardee Muir Award. To qualify for the award a candidate most possess the following criteria:

  1. At least 5 years of experience on the bench
  2. A compassionate and kind temperament, that enables the ability and attitude that makes the courts accessible and inviting to all
  3. Recognized by members of the bar, litigants, court personnel, jurors and the community at-large as respectful and even-handed, but in firm control of activities within the courtroom
  4. Encourages a high level of open, honest communication
  5. Respected by, and has the confidence of, other judges, court staff, lawyers and others.
