The Future Lawyers Scholarship

Future Lawyers Scholarship

Sofia Gonzalez
Miami-Dade Bar

My name is Sofia Gonzalez, and I am an undergraduate student at the Miami Dade Honors College. I plan to pursue a career in the legal field, specifically as an international lawyer. With that being said, I aspire to attend law school in the future, and I understand the obstacles that may arise. Law school is very expensive, and I understand the financial burden it can place on many. Additionally, LSAT fees and the materials necessary to prepare for the exam can add to these expenses. All of these expenses add up and can make it difficult for students to prepare for and attend law school. Seeing that I will be in this position in the next year or two, I empathize with those who are currently in this position. I wanted to create a meaningful initiative for other students pursuing the same path as me. For this reason, I decided to create the Future Lawyers Scholarship.

This initiative is extremely important to me because I believe that financial circumstances should not stand in the way of a student’s goals and aspirations or hinder them from achieving their dreams. I understand that the journey toward law school takes dedication and preparation, with legal professions demanding years of education, networking, and skill-building. Inspiring a bright group of young students to pursue their legal ambitions is critical in ensuring that the world has competent representatives and passionate advocates.

The Future Lawyers Scholarship is designed to support undergraduate juniors and seniors who are residents of Florida and are studying international relations, political science, legal studies/pre-law, criminal justice, public policy, history, philosophy, economics, sociology, or related fields. Applicants must be pursuing law school or a legal career while facing financial barriers and demonstrate commitment to their education through coursework, extracurricular activities, leadership, volunteering, and other efforts. Through the Future Lawyers Scholarship Fund, my goal is to raise $2,500 to award five students $500 each.

To ease some of the financial challenges students may face, encourage them to continue working toward their goals, and support them as they take the next step toward law school, I ask that you contribute to the Future Lawyers Scholarship Fund. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help bring the fund closer to its goal of awarding scholarships to five aspiring legal professionals.
